NWFF 2020: October 16th – 18th
October 16 – 18, 2020
This year’s festival is an online festival, focussing on Canadian filmmakers. With 3 feature films and more than 30 short films, we know there will be something you love.
As the festival is slowly wrapping up, we’ve added a 2 question survey to get your feedback. Vote for your favourite film!
For the the 2020 NewWest FilmFest season, all films will be virtual. Starting October 16th, your ticket or pass will give you access to watch films online anytime you want, day or night! Films will be available for you to view until the 18th and beyond to ensure you have ample time to see all the shows you want.
Welcome to the 2020 New West Film Fest! It has been, for everyone, a challenging year. We are glad you are joining us, if even for a moment, to celebrate film and connect as a community.
Our volunteers have worked hard to bring you the best experience possible and we’re excited to show you our selections for 2020! We encourage you to explore all of the films as we explore this exciting online festival format together. Thank you to our filmmakers for sharing your films with us!
Finally, If you’re looking for a recommendation, well, watch everything! Grab some snacks, hop on the couch (sofa? chesterfield?), and enjoy!
Thank you and please be safe. We’ll see you again soon.
New West Film Society is led by a group of passionate film aficionados who want to share their love of film with the community to spark appreciation, conversation, and culture, itself. Its signature event is a 3-day festival held annually. It has steadily grown in popularity and has evolved over the years since its inception in 2011.
The New West Film Society was begun by a committed group of environmental and social activists who focused on relevant documentaries. In 2015, the society re-branded itself as the New West Film Society and widened its fare to include contemporary feature films and documentaries on many subjects, while still paying homage to its roots. More recently, it has taken on the mantle of the “filmmakers festival”. Rather than going through curated sources of films, such as the Toronto International Film Festival, it now solicits filmmakers directly – locally, nationally and internationally. This has allowed the society to create a unique festival with films of strong local relevance and also to bring to audiences to films from across Canada and around the world that aren’t seen on local screens or at other festivals.
The NewWest FilmFest is the mainstay of the society, but it is also expanding its wings to create other film events throughout the year, sometimes in partnership with others.
Over the years, the non-profit organization has partnered with a number of organizations and has been generously supported by local businesses, grass-roots organizations, the Arts Council of New Westminster, Green Ideas Network and New Westminster Environmental Partners.
